Ordinary moments create extraordinary results…stories to inspire your leadership

Leadership expert Brene Brown once wrote,

“Joy comes to us in ordinary moments. We risk missing out when we get too busy chasing down the extraordinary.” 

When you’re an ambitious school leader, this can be a tough sentiment to hear. You’ve dedicated years of your life to creating a center that’s extraordinary—and now you’re being told to aspire to the commonplace?

I get that resistance. But I’d challenge you to take a moment and think about all the reasons why you became a school leader in the first place.

Did you get where you are today because you wanted to run the most extraordinary early childhood care center there’s ever been?

Or did you get there because of all the simple, yet powerful, moments along the way? Moments like seeing a child’s smile, or resolving a challenge with a colleague, or having a warm conversation with a parent?

I believe that ordinary moments create extraordinary results. When you’re able to slow down and enjoy the small, seemingly mundane threads that make up the fabric of your days, not only does it benefit your work—it makes your life richer.
And it just so happens that learning to slow down and cherish those ordinary moments is a critical piece of the puzzle of stepping fully into your leadership role.
That’s why, over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing stories of real-life school leaders like you who learned to value the ordinary moments of their own lives … and to nurture them into extraordinary results for their centers.
